Pastor
Vardie Hopkins was born in Southern California in 1937. He graduated
from Santa Paula High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy
and played in the Drum and Bugle Corp.
He
was raised in a Christian home and attended the Assembly of God
and Four Square Churches. He accepted Jesus as his Savior and was
filled the Holy Ghost and called into the ministry in 1956.
In
1961 his arm was severely burned in an accident. With amputation
as his only option he experienced a miracle healing when his parents
took him to a tent revival with Evangelist James Foster. He then
traveled with the Tent Ministry as a music director in the Western
and Southern United States.
He
met and married Sister Hopkins in 1964. They and their children
traveled and sang Country Gospel Music in churches in California
and Texas. They have 5 children whom are all grown, married, and
their families are serving the Lord.
Pastor
Vardie Hopkins was licensed in 2002 with the Pentecostal Church
of God. When Open Door Christian Fellowship was closed down and
the building sold, some of the members wanted to continue to meet
together. Brother Hopkins was asked to Pastor the congregation and
after prayer he felt led to continue the work that was started there.
It
is a small congregation of faithful believers who expect miracles
and who love to serve the Lord. We have old time revival preaching
and traditional and Country Gospel music. Come and be blessed and
grow with us as we seek to walk in the path that our Lord would
have us go.
